Diemer Water Treatment Plant Oxidation Retrofit Program
Yorba Linda, California
Prior to the ORP final design, DLT&V was involved in the Electrical Reliability Improvement Study for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's 450 MGD Diemer Water Treatment Plant. The study included reliability and maintainability improvements to ensure a single component failure would not disable plant operations. DLT&V reviewed drawings, performed site visits to verify missing data, and reviewed alternatives such as double ended medium voltage systems, double ended 480-volt systems, neutral grounding, future load expansions, and failure analysis. During the ORP final design, DLT&V designed a new double ended 4160-volt and 480-volt power distribution system for the new and existing loads, including new distribution feeders to 5 existing unit power centers and 5 new unit power centers and their associated double ended MCCs. ETAP Power System Analysis software was utilized to calculate duct bank heat loading, cable pulling tension calculation, voltage drop calculation, and short-circuit analysis.
